Building Students’ Numeracy Skills at Monsignor Philip Coffey Catholic School

Posted On Wednesday February 28, 2018

Students in Mrs. Dennis’ class at Monsignor Philip Coffey Catholic School were given the challenge of making totals of 15 using 5 different Cuisenaire rods.

Cuisenaire rods are a great hands-on way for students to explore math and learn the concepts of basic arithmetic.   A variety of combinations were created by the students who shared their results with the class.  Creating basic representations of simple mathematical ideas helps students to apply these connections to more complex problem solving.

Thanks to Mr. Richard (Teaching and Learning Consultant) and Mrs. Dennis for giving students more opportunities to enjoy their numeracy work every day!
